Hello Team GPRacing fans! As you may have noticed, I’ve been posting updates and media to facebook more, and the website a bit less. I’ll still post to both locations, but the website will always have the most current and in-depth info. Stay informed by checking back often!

What an exciting weekend we had! After getting the car tuned at the dyno, we were ready for a bit of on-track testing. Fortunately, Whiskey Hill Raceway at Palmer Motorsports Park opened its doors to the public for the first time this week. We attended their first open track day on Saturday and almost had the entire track to ourselves. The facility still needs some work before it’s ready for racing (striping, tower, etc), but the track itself is an absolute blast to drive. Our experience with the team at Palmer was exemplary, as they went out of their way to make sure that our needs were met and that they listened to any suggestions that we had about the facility.

We had four on-track sessions that were very helpful with data gathering and testing. Our best lap was a 1:55.36, and I believe that I’m leaving at least 5 seconds on the track due to my level of experience with the track. Although the weather was amazing and the car performed great, the day was not without its issues. We had to cut the afternoon a bit short with a failing oil cooler. Apparently our high oil pressure was a bit too much for it. We have plenty of time to get things squared away before the first race over Memorial Day weekend and I hope to see you at the track sometime soon!

Here are a couple laps from the new track. Enjoy!

We took the car to Granite State Dyno and Tune this Saturday to tune the new electronic ignition system and get some power readings on the car. It was amazing to have a car from 1977 on a top of the line Dynojet, hooked up to two computers, and being remotely tuned by a pro in Texas. At the end of the day, we were able to gain about 30hp because of our dyno session. We were hoping for more total hp, but the dyno tune and elecronic ignition really paid off. Our final numbers were 148hp at 9900 rpm, in third gear. Not bad considering the car left the factory with about 80rwhp. The final hp number would be higher in 4th and 5th gear, but since we were just there for tuning, there was no need to push the car and dyno.

We have a couple more tasks to complete before our first race on Memorial Day but we’ll have no trouble being ready to go. Hope to see you at the track in a month!

Well, it’s been a little while since my last entry, but this one is worth the wait. Check out the video below that shows the startup of the new motor! We still have some tinkering in the engine bay and a couple other little modifications to complete before the season begins at the end of May, but we’re making great progress. If you’re in the area, come out to the Wankel Works 2nd Annual Rotary and Japanese Meet. We’ll be there to show off the car and hope you can make it.
